Real quick... Before you read another word…
Are you using a customer relationship management tool (CRM)?
And no, your booking software doesn’t count.
If not, it’s time you did. More on that below…

The Inversion Strategy: How to succeed by avoiding stupidity
One of my favorite thinkers, Charlie Munger, had this idea called “Inversion Thinking.”
Instead of asking: What should I do to succeed?
He’d ask: What should I do if I want to fail?

It’s brilliant. Because it turns out, avoiding bad decisions is often more powerful than trying to make a bunch of “right” decisions.
So today, let’s flip the script:
If you wanted to stay small, stall out, or burn out… what would you do?

guaranteed ways to NOT grow your business
Here’s the shortlist we see over and over again:

Don’t track anything
Let’s unpack each one, shall we?

Don’t use a CRM
Sticky notes, voicemails, and your inbox will do just fine, right?
Wrong.
Your CRM isn’t just a contact list—it’s where you track:
-
Where leads come from
-
Who books
-
Who returns
-
What your clients are worth over the long haul (LTV)
Without it, you’re guessing.
And guessing doesn’t scale. It leads to stagnant growth and wasted marketing dollars.
If you’re not using a CRM, we recommend High Level. Specifically, the proven system that all of our clients use. Want to plug our custom setup into your business? Learn more here.

Rely only on referrals
Referrals are great. But they’re not an all-encompassing strategy.
And most operators don’t have a system to generate them in the first place.
Want more? Try this:
-
After a ride, call the client (especially locals)
-
Ask how the service was
-
If they’re thrilled, ask:
“Is there anyone else you know who’d appreciate this level of service?”
That’s how you scale the unscalable—and turn one ride into two.
But again, this shouldn’t be your only strategy. Just one of them.
Make sure you’re prioritizing direct bookings.
The best way for most of you?
Search ads >> leads who want your service >> immediate booking >> follow up.

Compete on price
If your strategy is “I’ll be the cheapest”… congratulations, you’ve purchased yourself a front row ticket to a race to the bottom.
Besides, clients with money don’t want “cheap.”
They want value.
They want:
-
Seamless booking
-
Proactive service
-
Clean cars, early arrivals, personal touches
You can’t deliver that on razor-thin margins.

Treat your business like a job
If you’re spending 40–50 hours a week behind the wheel… Here’s my hot take:
You’re not running a business. You are the business.
That’s fine if you love it. Or if you’re just starting out.
But if your goal is freedom, profit, or scale, you’ve got to start thinking like a business owner—not just a driver… More on that in this week’s YouTube video.

Make clients do the heavy lifting
Quick real-world example from a past client:
I’ll skip to the punch line… A prospect filled out a form, got quoted, and was ready to move forward…
And the operator says (over the phone), “Great! I’ll send you a link to finish your booking.”
Come on.
This is luxury transportation.
Make it easy. Make it quick. Handle it FOR them.
Otherwise, you’re training your clients to expect less—and to shop around.
Don’t track anything
No source attribution. No call tracking. No idea which ads are working.
That’s how you waste $5,000 a month and scratch your head wondering why you’re stuck.

Know your cost to acquire a first-time client, and their LTV
Operators who track this stuff scale faster and smarter.

So… What should you actually do?
Start by asking yourself:
“What am I doing today that’s keeping me small?”
Cut those things out.
Avoid the dumb stuff.
And you’ll start moving faster than ever.
“It’s easier to avoid stupidity than to seek brilliance.”
