Day In The Life: Owner of A Rapidly Growing Limo Company

Most limo operators think they provide great service.

And after interviewing dozens of owners, I’ve learned this:

The ones who rise to the top are obsessed with details that everyone else ignores.

This past week, I sat down with an operator who built a powerhouse brand in a crowded market. Not through discounts, and certainly not through luck... but through a level of precision most companies don’t even attempt.

He started as a software engineer…and it shows in the way he runs his fleet.

Today, I’m breaking down the exact mindset, habits, and systems behind Jorge Sanchez's 5-star operation, Hermes Worldwide, so you can take what works and implement it immediately.

✔ The standard that separates 4 and 5-star service

✔ Why your customers are smarter than you think

✔ How to use affiliates without losing client trust

✔ The “partner-proof” way to protect your brand

✔ Internal (daily) habits that create elite operations

The standard that separates 4 and 5-star service

Here’s what most operators think 5-star means:

  • The car is clean

  • The chauffeur is polite

  • The ride is smooth

That’s basic hospitality, not luxury.

Real 5-star is what the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton expect:

  • The branded magazine is turned the right direction

  • The bottles of water are chilled (not room temp)

  • The bottles are replaced at the right time, not too early

  • Every detail feels intentional and fresh

Jorge broke it down perfectly:

“If the client steps out for a one-hour meeting, that half-drank bottle shouldn’t be waiting for them. But don’t replace it immediately. It warms up. Replace it five minutes before they come back.”

Don’t think of it as customer service.

It’s craftsmanship.

Why your customers are smarter than you think

A lot of operators try to hide their affiliate use.

They hint that every vehicle in every city is “their fleet.”

They pretend the chauffeur is their employee.

They hand out instructions to fake the brand.

Stop.

Your customers are not clueless.

They are high-income, high-awareness professionals.

They know:

  • Most companies use partners

  • Different markets require different providers

  • It’s impossible for you to own 30 vehicles in 18 states

What they’re actually evaluating is your judgment.

They’re thinking:

“Can you choose the right partner?

Can you protect my experience?

Can I trust you to tell me the truth?”

If you try to hide reality, you destroy that trust.

If you’re up-front, you earn more of it.

How to use affiliates without losing client trust

Here’s the rule:

Use affiliates freely.

Hide nothing.

Protect everything that matters.

Jorge does it beautifully:

  • Partners use his branded water

  • Partners hand out his business cards

  • Partners know exactly how to maintain his service standard

  • But partners are never forced to violate their own boundaries

Clients get the consistency.

Partners get the respect.

Everyone wins.

And here’s the most important part:

If a client tries to bypass the affiliate and book directly?

He sends them right back.

That’s why his partner network is loyal.

That’s why his clients trust him.

And that’s why his brand reputation is bulletproof.

The “partner-proof” way to protect your brand

A lot of operators struggle with:

  • Partners showing up late

  • Partners ignoring client instructions

  • Partners refusing to offer refunds

  • Partners damaging their reputation

This operator solved it with one guiding principle:

Raise the standard, don’t tighten the leash.

You cannot micromanage a partner.

You cannot force them to wear your tie.

You cannot demand they pretend to work for you.

But you can:

  • Share exactly what your clients expect

  • Give them the tools (cards, water, scripts)

  • Treat them as equals, not subcontractors

  • Make their job easier, not harder

  • And reward the ones who perform consistently

The result?

Clients consistently leave reviews praising partners… which is the ultimate proof that his system works.

Internal (daily) habits that create elite operations

Here’s the real magic:

Jorge runs his company like a software engineer (which he used to be).

Every day, he looks at:

  • Response time metrics

  • Hold time metrics

  • Client communication patterns

  • Internal workflow delays

  • And any bottleneck slowing down service

Then he asks one question:

“How do we lower this number?”

Not once.

But every day.

For example:

  • Email response time: 2 hours → push to 90 minutes → push to 30 minutes

  • Hold time: eliminate long holds → require frequent check-ins

  • Vehicle prep: standardize → optimize → systemize

He’s not working “in” the business.

He’s optimizing “around” it.

That’s what creates scale.

That’s what builds reputation.

That’s what separates operators who grow from operators who burn out.

The takeaway for you

If you take nothing else from this week’s newsletter, take this:

Excellence is not one big decision.

It’s hundreds of tiny ones.

It’s chilled water.

It’s response times.

It’s operational discipline.

It’s being honest with clients.

It’s partnering with people who lift your brand, not drag it down.

That’s how you build a company people rave about.

That’s how you build a brand people trust.

That’s how you charge more, retain more, and grow more.

See you next week.
